Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
The moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would otherwise never have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man would have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, do it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now! (Von Goethe 1749-1832)
This quote could be about committing to stay in a relationship or committing to separating and living alone well. It is saying that, whatever the circumstances, if you don’t commit, if you stay half in and half out, you will never feel how anything really is. Also you will never experience the opportunities that arise when you do commit.
Doing anything fully involves risks; some of them may be significant and frightening. But remember it is also extremely risky to not do anything, to not commit, to sit on the fence; in that you risk always feeling frustrated and never really being connected and alive. And most of all you risk never fully loving and never fully being loved.
